Formerly known as Classic Car Leather
How it started
My name is Robert and my leather crafting has evolved over many years. Born of an appreciation of finer things and classic styles I am now creating custom leather goods that satisfy unique customer requirements.
This is my 1956 MGA sports car and it has very limited storage space. Many of these old cars have a luggage rack added to accommodate baggage for road trips. I love the clean lines of the original car (without a rack) and so set out to build a saddle bag that could be slung as a bolster behind the passengers. The bag had to fit the car without any alteration to the vehicle and it had to fit in the space where the convertible top was stowed, whenever the top was up.Â
It worked like a charm when we drove from Vancouver to Santa Barbara down the pacific coast road.
Soft leather luggage has that period look that suits any classic car and many older classics have subtle hidden spaces where a leather bag or box can be placed.
The Creation Process
The customer is an integral part of the process. Only you can say what you need and only you can determine just how custom a product will be.
Every piece is made by hand. While there are some basic patterns and styles to draw from, it is the subtle shape or the colour or little customizations that make a big impact.
Send me a picture, draw me a sketch or send the dimensions. (You know that place in the trunk behind the spare tire or that spot behind the passenger seat that never really gets used.) If you have an idea, that's where we start.
It's a collaborative process to make sure you get what you are looking for and can be a number of back and forth conversations or only a few.
I utilize e-mail and pictures and can talk through both the design and the construction stages as necessary. You'll see the final product evolve until we both agree that it's done.
